Govt launched Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan

Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan has been launched on 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar to strengthen Panchayati Raj in villages and ensure social harmony.

  • The eleven day campaign will also focus on generating nation wide efforts on promoting rural development and fostering farmers’ progress.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick start the campaign at Ambedkar’s ancestral village Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.
  • During the campaign, discussions on issues pertaining to rural development, improving farmers’ income, SC and ST welfare and social harmony will be held on different platforms.
  • Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday Abhiyan will conclude on Panchayati Raj Diwas on 24th with address of Prime Minister to all gram sabhas from Jamshedpur through Radio and Tv.

Number of wild tigers in the world rises 22%

For the first time in almost a century, there has been an increase in the global tiger population. The number of wild tigers has increased to 3,890 in April from 3,200 in 2010 – an increase of almost 22%.

  • India alone recorded an increase of over 500 tigers during this six-year period and continues to be home to the highest number of wild cats.
  • The increase in world tiger population has been attributed to multiple factors including increases in the tiger populations in India, Russia, Nepal and Bhutan, improved surveys and enhanced protection.

Nauru becomes 189th member of IMF, World Bank

The Republic of Nauru, a tiny South Pacific island nation in Pacific Ocean became the 189th member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank i.e. Bretton-Woods institutions.

Note: Nauru applied for membership in the Washington-based IMF and World Bank in April 2014, after joining the United Nations in 1996 as the world’s smallest independent republic.

Australia lift Azlan Shah Cup; beat India 4-0 in final

Australian hockey team registered a thumping victory over India in the final to lift the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup for the ninth time.

  • The dominant Australian team defeated India 4-0 with Thomas William Craig and Matt Gohdes scoring two goals each.
  • India made it to the final after beating Malaysia 6-1.
