Toyota Motors retained its position as number one in global vehicle sales in 2014

Japanese company Toyota Motors sold 10.23 million vehicles globally during 2014 to stay on top. Volkswagen AG of Germany occupied second spot with 10.14 million vehicles followed by General Motors of the US which sold 9.92 million vehicles during the year.

SAIL and POSCO recently agreed to jointly set up a 3-million-tonne integrated plant in India

This plant, to be established with an estimated investment of  Rs. 18,000 crore would be set up adjacent to SAIL’s existing plant in Bokaro (Jharkhand). Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and South Korean steel major POSCO have resolved their earlier differences on ownership of the proposed project. It has been decided that SAIL and POSCO would hold 49% stake each and the remaining 2% would be held by a financial institution.

Union Government launches HRIDAY scheme

Union government has launched a Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) scheme to preserve and rejuvenate the rich cultural heritage of the country as well as advancement of the entire ecosystem including its citizens, tourists and local businesses. Union governments ambitious Rs. 500 crore HRIDAY project was launched by Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi.

In the initial phase, 12 heritage cities have been identified which will be rejuvenated and developed under HRIDAY.

The 12 cities are:  Amritsar, Varanasi, Gaya, Puri, Ajmer, Mathura, Dwarka, Badami, Velankanni, Kanchipuram, Warangal and Amaravati.

Jaipur Literature Festival Begins With a Soulful Hymn

The 8th edition of the festival is hosting a number of Indian and International authors, poets and celebrities. China-born British author Jung Chang, former President A P J Abdul Kalam, actor Naseeruddin Shah, playwright Girish Karnad, Nobel laureate V S Naipaul, renowned contemporary travel writer Paul Theroux, Pulitzer Prize winning poet Vijay Seshadri, Oscar-nominated screenwriter and novelist Hanif Kureishi are the participants of 8th edition of JLF.
