Government releases list of first 20 smart cities

The Government has released the list of first 20 smart cities out of the 98 shortlisted for the Smart Cities mission.

  • A smart city is highly advanced urban region in terms of overall infrastructure, communications, sustainable real estate and market viability.
  • In this city information technology (IT) is the principal infrastructure and the basis for providing essential services to residents.
  • There are many technological platforms involved the principal infrastructure of the smart cities and it is not limited to automated sensor networks and data centres.

India amends Double Taxation Avoidance Convention with Armenia

Government of India has signed a Protocol to amend the existing Double Taxation Avoidance Convention with the Government of Armenia.

The Protocol will enable the two countries to exchange information related to financial and banking transactions under the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention, and thereby facilitate them in addressing tax evasion.
