Four Indians among Forbes world’s 100 most powerful women

German Chancellor Angela Merkel again topped the Forbes annual list. Merkel has made the list 10 times over the past 12 years, nine times as No 1.

  •  Arundhati Bhattacharya: First woman (and youngest) Chairperson of State Bank of India (SBI) was placed at 30th position.
  • Chanda Kochhar: Managing Director (MD) and CEO of India’s largest private sector lender ICICI Bank was placed at 35th position.
  • Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw: Founder, Chairman and MD of Biocon Limited was placed at 85th position.
  • Shobhana Bhartia: Chairperson and Editorial Director of the Hindustan Times Group was placed at 93rd position.

Two women of Indian-origin — PepsiCo Chief Indra Nooyi (15) and Cisco Chief Technology and Strategy Officer Padmasree Warrior (84) — make the list.

PM launches DD Kisan – India’s first television channel dedicated to farmers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first television channel DD Kisan dedicated to farmers. The DD Kisan channel which goes with the tagline, ‘Badalte Bharat ki Shan’ is a 24×7 channel that will telecast updated information on agriculture, weather and related subject for the benefit of its target audience including cattle rearers, bee keepers, poultry owners, mechanics and craftsmen.

Centre forms panel headed by Vijay Kelkar  recast PPP model

The government has constituted a committee to revitalize the public private partnership (PPP) mode for infrastructure development. The 10-member panel to be headed by former economist and finance secretary Vijay Kelkar has been entrusted to suggest ways on improving capacity building within the government for effective implementation of PPP projects.

Trevor Bayliss appointed England cricket team’s head coach

Trevor Bayliss was appointed as the head coach of England cricket team. The 52-year-old Bliss became the first Australian to coach England. The New South Wales coach replaced Peter Moores.

Mandeep Kaur shines at world junior Boxing championship

15-year-old boxer Mandeep Kaur Sandhu, has won two gold medals (52 kg category)  at the Women’s World Junior Boxing Championship by beating Ireland’s Niamh Earley in the final match by a 3-0 margin.
