Shashi Kapoor gets Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Shashi Kapoor, the veteran actor and producer was chosen for the 46th edition of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, 2014; It is the most prestigious film award in India. This award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.

  • He is best-known for his performances in Hindi films like ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’, ‘Deewar’, ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’,‘Trishul’ and ‘Kabhi Kabhie’.
  • In 2011, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, and he is also a proud recipient of three National Film Awards.
  • The award consists of a Swarn Kamal (Golden Lotus), a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh and a shawl.

Madhav Gadgil and Dr. Jane Lubchenco won Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement 2015

Renowned ecologist Madhav Gadgil has been chosen for the prestigious 2015 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement. The prize, instituted in 1973, is awarded by the Tyler Prize Executive Committee with the administrative support of the University of Southern California. Dr. Gadgil, who was chairman of the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP), will share the $200,000 cash prize with American marine ecologist Jane Lubchenco for their work in changing policy and especially for their “leadership and engagement in the development of conservation and sustainability policies in the United States, India and internationally”.

Sania Mirza is now world No.3 in doubles rankings

Sania Mirza jumped to her career-best rank of three in the doubles, following her stupendous title win at the BNP Paribas Open with Swiss great Martina Hingis. Sania now sits at number three with 6885 points, behind Italians Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani, who share the top spot with 7640 points each.
