Nitish Kumar sworn in as CM of Bihar for 4th time

Nitish Kumar has sworn in as the Chief Minister (CM) of Bihar for the 4th time. Governor of Bihar Keshri Nath Tripathi administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at the oath taking ceremony held at Raj Bhawan in Patna. Along with Nitish Kumar, 22 Janta Dal United (JDU) Party legislators, including three women were also sworn in as Cabinet Ministers. Earlier on 20 February 2015, Jitan Ram Manjhi had resigned as CM ending a month long political turmoil in Bihar.

Environmental loss in Sundarbans worth Rs 1290 crore: World Bank 

As per World Bank’s recently released report Building Resilience for Sustainable Development of the Sundarbans, environmental damage in the climate change-hit islands of Sundarbans is costing India Rs. 1,290 crore each year. This report was jointly prepared by World Bank in collaboration with the West Bengal government.

Indian-American, Purnendu Dasgupta, wins prestigious chemistry award

An Indian-American, who developed an environment friendly field analyser for checking toxic arsenic levels in water, has been awarded a prestigious award for his special contribution in the field of chemistry by the American Chemical Society (ACSs) Division of Analytical Chemistry J. Calvin Giddings Award.

International Mother Language Day observed on February 21

International Mother Language Day 2015 was celebrated across the world on 21 February 2015. The theme for the year 2015 is “Inclusive Education through and with Language – ­Language Matters”. The day is observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999.

Ranchi Rays won the 3rd edition of Hockey India League (HIL) 2015

Ranchi Rays defeated Punjab Warriors 3-2 in a penalty shootout in the final at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi on 22 February. The regulation time score read 2-2 which resulted in the shootout. Though the Rays are a new team co-owned by India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the squad is more or less the same as that of the now non-existent Ranchi Rhinos which won the inaugural HIL in 2013.
