Aakar Patel to head Amnesty International India

Writer Aakar Patel joined Amnesty International India as its new executive director. Aakar Patel will head AI India’s operations and its efforts to end human rights abuses in India and worldwide. With a background in the textile industry, Aakar’s work includes ‘India: Low Trust Society‘ (2015) and ‘Rights and Wrongs‘, a report on the 2002 Gujarat riots which he co-authored. .

Historian Ramachandra Guha Selected for Japan’s Fukuoka Prize

Historian-author Ramachandra Guha has been selected for Japan’s prestigious Fukuoka Prize in the Academic category. Astronomers name new galaxy ‘CR7’ in honour of Cristiano Ronaldo

Astronomers have named a newly discovered galaxy as CR7 (COSMOS Redshift 7) after Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo is famously known as CR7 after his initials and his jersey number. He had won Fifa’s Ballon d’Or award consecutively for two years in 2013 and 2014 and has scored a staggering 66 goals this season.

Golden State Warriors won the National Basketball Association (NBA) title 2015

Golden State Warriors won its first NBA title in 40 years as it defeated Cleveland Cavaliers by 105-97. The Warriors won the final three games of this best-of-seven series, countering every move that the Cavaliers made. This was fourth overall NBA title for Golden State Warriors and the first title since 1975. The team is based on Oakland, California and has now won NBA titles in 1947, 1948, 1975 and 2015.
