SoftBank invests Rs 630 crore in OYO Rooms

Japanese conglomerate SoftBank has picked online aggregator of budget hotels OYO Rooms for its latest investment in India, by leading a Rs 630-crore ($100-million) funding round in the Gurgaon-based company.

Kashinath Singh chosen for Bharat Bharti literary award 2014

Hindi litterateur Kashinath Singh was chosen for the Uttar Pradesh’s highest literary award Bharat Bharti for the year 2014. The award is given by UP Hindi Sansthan every year. It carries a cash prize of 5 lakh rupees. Singh has penned many novels and short stories. One of his most famous novel is Kashi ka Assi, which captures the vibrant hues of Banaras.

18th IIT opens at Palakkad

The 18th Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) opened with 117 students at Palakkad. The majority of students are from north India, with only 12 from Kerala. IIT Palakkad is Kerala’s first IIT and is presently lodged in a temporary campus.

South Sudan became the 206th Olympic member four years after independence, allowing the war-ravaged African nation to take part in the Rio Games next year. IOC accepted the country by acclaim at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

The sport of flying disc, was officially recognized as an Olympic sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 2nd August 2015.
