  • The trial run of Spanish faster train Talgo conducted between Bareilly and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle can speed up to 115 km per hour.
  • According to the report released by WHO, four Indian cities Gwalior, Allahabad, Patna and Raipur topped in the list of most polluted cities after Zabol in Iran.
  • International Labour Day 2016 observed on 01 May and the theme is “Celebrating the international labour movement”.

  • TMC chief Mamata Banerjee sworn as chief minister of West Bengal for a second consecutive term
  • Congress party elected V Narayanaswamy as the Chief Minister of Puducherry.
  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sarbananda Sonowal took oath as Chief Minister of Assam in Guwahati.
  • AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa took oath for the sixth time as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
  • Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, leader Pinarayi Vijayan took oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala.
  • Union Government approved 6 new IITs. This six new IITs will come up at Tirupati, Palakkad, Dharwar, Bhilai, Goa and Jammu while ISM Dhanbad will also be upgraded to an IIT.

  • South Korean writer Han Kang wins 2016 Man Booker International Prize for the novel ‘The Vegetarian’.
  • Indian music composer AR Rahman conferred with the Japan’s Fukuoka prize 2016 for his outstanding contribution toward music.
  • The British film maker Ken Loach has been awarded the 2016 Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival for his film “I, Daniel Blake”.

  • Real Madrid wins the Champions Trophy for 11th time with a 5­-3 penalties victory over Atletico Madrid, after a 1-­1 draw in the Champions League.
  • Sunrisers Hyderbad beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs to win the 9th Indian Premier League.
  • FC Barcelona defeat Sevilla by 2-­0 in the final to win 28th Copa Del Rey Title.
  • Mohun Bagan wins the Federation Cup title for the 14th time after defeating Aizawl FC by 5­-0.
  • Barcelona wins the La Liga Championship.
  • China has won the Uber Cup badminton tournament defeating South Korea in the finals at Kunshan Sports Centre Gymnasium, China (India stood at the third position).
  • Denmark has become the first European nation to win the Thomas Cup badminton tournament defeating Indonesia in the finals of the 2016 tournament.
  • Pakistan has won the third edition of the Asian Kabaddi Championship 2016 (Circle Style) by defeating India.
  • England batsman Alastair Cook broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record as he became the youngest batsman to score 10,000 runs in Tests. He achieved the record at 31 years and 158 days on the fourth day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Durham. Cook also became the first England player to reach the landmark of 10,000 runs.
