PM flags off Mahamana express train

In Varanasi he flaged off Mahamana Express. It will run from Delhi to Varanasi. The 18 bogey train has been named after Banaras Hindu University’s founder Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya.

  • The train will have AC Bogies, general coaches and a special bogey for Divyaangs as well.
  • The train is fully equipped with modern facilities and bio toilets in every coach.
  • It will have new renovated and refurbished coaches, with enhanced passenger amenities.

Obama to Award National Medal of Science to Dr. Rakesh K. Jain 

Dr. Rakesh K. Jain and 16 other scientists, engineers, mathematicians and innovators will receive the National Medals of Science and Technology and Innovation from President Barack Obama on Jan. He is a professor of tumor biology at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Harvard Medical School.

25 Children selected for National Bravery Awards 2015

25 children, including three girls and 22 boys, have been selected for the National Bravery Awards for 2015. Two of the awards would be given posthumously. The children will receive their awards from the Prime Minister on 24th of January and will participate in the Republic Day parade.

Renowned Classical Dancer Mrilalini Sarabhai passes away

Legendary classical danseuse Mrinalini Sarabhai passed away in Ahmedabad, Gujarat due to age related health complications. She was 97.

  • She was trained in Bharatnatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniyattom and was educated at Shantiniketan under the guidance of Rabindranath Tagore.
  • Awards and Honours: Padma Bhushan Award (1992), Padma Shri (1965) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship (1994).

2015 is warmest year on record 

Global temperatures in 2015 were the warmest on record. According to data published by the meteorologists in UK and US, Last year was the Earth’s warmest since record-keeping began in 1880.

  • The Met Office figures show that 2015 was 0.75C warmer than the long-term average between 1961-1990.
  • Experts say the record temperatures were due to a combination of El Niño and human-induced warming.
