India, China ink 24 key agreements to boost ties in trade, economy, education

India and China signed 24 key agreements to strengthen their bilateral relationship in several fields including trade and commerce, education, skill development, railways, human resource and other areas. The agreements were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang after delegation level talks in Beijing.

M.J. Joseph appointed as Controller General of Accounts

The Centre has appointed M.J. Joseph as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in the Ministry of Finance. Prior to this appointment, Joseph was the Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). He succeeds Jawahar Thakur, who has been appointed as OSD (Accounting Reforms) in the Office of CGA.

14-year-old Indian-American boy wins National Geographic Bee Championship

Karan Menon, a 14­-year­-old Indian­-American student, won the 2015 National Geographic Bee championship. In addition to winning the title of National Geographic Bee champion, Menon received a USD 85,000 college scholarship, lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society and an expedition for two to the Galapagos Islands aboard the Lindblad ship National Geographic Endeavour.

Gagan Narang earns Rio berth, wins World Cup bronze in 50m prone

India’s ace shooter Gagan Narang won the bronze medal in the 50m Rifle Prone Event of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. With this medal, Gagan became third Indian shooter to have won a Rio Olympic berth for the country after pistol shooter Jitu Rai and rifle shooter Apurvi Chandela. The Gold medal of the event was won by McPhail Michael of USA and Silver medal was won by Bryhn Ole Kristian of Norway.

Tejaswini wins gold at Under-15 World school chess championship

Tejaswini Sagar from India won under-15 category of World School Chess Championships in her maiden attempt. In the ninth and final round played at Pattaya, Thailand she defeated Kavinya Miyuni Rajapaksa of Sri Lank to win gold medal.
