IFCI Ltd. now a Government company
IFCI was earlier known as the Industrial Finance Corporation of India. It was the first development finance institution in the country. Till now the Union Govt. had 47.93% stake in it. Some time back the govt. acquired IFCI’s 6 crore preference shares and taking up its stake up to 51.04%. Thus, as per the provisions of Section 2(45) of the Companies Act, 2013 IFCI became a government company (PSU) with effect from 7 April 2015.
Reliance Jio launches messaging, calling app Jio Chat
Reliance Jio Infocomm has launched its first product, a messaging app called Jio Chat. It is launched with the feature where users not only get to chat with others but also have video and audio conferencing with them. Thane named India’s Earth Hour Capital 2015 by WWF
Thane in Mumbai, Maharashtra was named as the National Earth Hour Capital 2015 and Seoul, the capital and largest metropolis of South Korea, was awarded the title of Global Earth hour Capital 2015 by World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The Earth Hour City Challenge is a global challenge that awards initiatives by cities for their environment-friendly actions that aim at footprint reduction. Last year, Coimbatore was selected as the National Earth Hour Capital.

Legendary Tamil writer Jayakanthan passed away in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was 81. He was known for charting a new course in Tamil literature with his bold and progressive works. He won Sahitya Akademi Award (1972) for his Tamil novel Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal, Jnanpith Award (2002) and Padma Bhushan (2009).
Australia legend and ‘voice of cricket’ Richie Benaud passes away at 84
Former Australia captain and legendary cricket commentator Richie Benaud passed away on 10 April 2015. He was 84. Richie Benaud was a fascinating leg-spin bowler of his era. He was the first man to achieve 2,000 runs and 200 wickets at Test level. He played in 63 Tests, 28 as captain, before retiring in 1964 to pursue a career in journalism and broadcasting. Benaud started his commentary career with the BBC in 1960.
