Microsoft unveils ‘Edge’, successor to Internet Explorer 

Software giant Microsoft recently unveiled its new web browser “Edge”, which would eventually replace the existing Internet Explorer. Edge is lighter and faster than Internet Explorer and comes with new features like a built-in notation tool, a distraction-free reading mode, and website information from Cortana, a personal voice-assistant app for Windows. Edge would be available only for Windows 10 and further. 

Nadia in West Bengal became the first open defecation-free district of India

Nadia district of West Bengal was on 30 April 2015 declared as the first open defecation-free (ODF) district in India. Nadia district could achieve this feat due to its collaborative effort with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and World Bank aimed at construction of toilets across the district.

Eminent scientist C N R Rao to receive Japan Government’s highest civilian award

The Japanese government’s highest civilian award, “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star”, that is conferred on academicians, politicians and military officers, will be conferred on eminent scientist C.N.R. Rao for his “contribution to promoting academic interchange and mutual understanding in science and technology between Japan and India”.

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport adjudged world’s best airport

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been adjudged the world’s best airport for the year 2014. In this regard, Airports Council International (ACI) presented the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award to IGIA under the category of handling 25 to 40 million passengers per annum.
