Delhi Legislative Assembly election result 2015

Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared the results of Delhi Legislative Assembly election 2015. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), headed by social activist turned politician Arvind Kejriwal, has emerged as the largest party with 67 seats in the house of 70 seats. Its main opponent BJP was reduced to just 3 seats while Congress was decimated to zero. Arvind Kejriwal is going to take oath as Chief Minister on 14 February 2014 at Ramlila Maidan, Delhi.

Facebook, Reliance Communications Ltd tie up to provide free Internet access to people

Facebook has tied up with India’s Reliance Communications to provide basic internet services on mobile phones for free, making India the first country in Asia to get Facebook’s Internet.org service. The Internet.org initiative will provide access to popular websites and services with zero data charge to make it easier for people to access the Internet across both the 2G and 3G platforms.

  • As part of this initiative, RCOM will offer free data access to 33 popular websites for all its customers under the umbrella of Internet.org. The free websites include Facebook, OLX, Cleartrip, TimesJobs, ESPN Cricinfo, etc.
  • Most of the services of 33 popular websites will be available in several Indian languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati and Marathi.
  • In the first phase, this service will be available in RCOM’s 7 circles which include Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chennai and Kerala.
  • In the second phase, this service will be launched pan India by May 2015.

Amartya Sen wins John Maynard Keynes Prize 2015

Eminent Indian economist and Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has been awarded the inaugural Charleston-EFG John Maynard Keynes Prize 2015. He was chosen for this award for his ground-breaking work that has a profound impact on the formation of development policy worldwide and outstanding contribution to society. Amartya Sen will receive £7,500 to commission a work of art.

First World Ocean Science Congress concludes in Kochi, Kerala

The World Ocean Science Congress (WOSC) held at Kochi spanning four days has concluded witnessing presentation of as many as 450 technical papers in 13 sessions by 86 Indian institutions and 14 foreign institutions. It was organized by Swadeshi Science Movement, Vijnana Bharati, Kerala Chapter and the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS). Themes of WOSC-2015Protect Oceans for Posterity and Blue Economy.
