Saudi Arabia, Egypt agree to build bridge over Red Sea
Saudi Arabia’s has announced a pact with Egypt to build a bridge over the Red Sea linking the two countries. The deals agreed with would amount to about $1.7bn. The announcement was made by Saudi Arabia’s king Salman during his official state visit to Egypt. However it was not mentioned where the bridge would be built.
NITI Aayog Launches the ‘Grand Innovation Challenge’
NITI Aayog launched on April 8th the first phase of the ‘Grand Innovation Challenge’ to seek citizens inputs on the key developmental challenges facing India.
- The ‘Grand Innovation Challenge’ is being launched on the MyGov portal, to involve citizens at the very first stage in innovating for India’s development.
- The idea is to work together with the States and every citizen as Team India to ensure progress. leaving no one behind.
Priyadarshini Chatterjee crowned Miss India World 2016
The 53rd edition of the Femina Miss India beauty pageant was held on 9 April 2016 in Mumbai where Aditi Arya crowned her successor Priyadarshini Chatterjee as Miss India World 2016. She will represent India at Miss World 2016. Sushruthi Krishna was crowned as the first runner up by Aafreen Vaz, and Pankhuri Gidwani was crowned as the second runner-up by Vartika Singh.
Mother Teresa conferred with Founders Award posthumously in UK
Mother Teresa has been posthumously conferred with the UK’s prestigious Founders Award this year which is given to recognise and reward exemplary achievements of people within the global Asian community. Teresa’s only living relative Agi Bojazhiu (niece) collected the award on her behalf.
NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly will write a book about his year in space
NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly will write a book titled “Endurance: My Year in Space and Our Journey to Mars”. Mr. Scott Kelly returned to the Earth in March 2016 after spending almost a year aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
- The book will be published by Alfred A. Knopf.
- He holds the record for the most total time spent in space, with more than 520 days logged on spacecraft, including the 340 consecutive days he worked on the space station.
