GOI to create ‘Khadi Gramudyog’ network
Government of India (GOI) wants to create a network of Khadi Gramudyog across villages in India on the 68th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and a book titled Nathuram Godse – The Story of an Assassin authored by Anup Ashok Sardesai is also released on the occasion.
Jet Airways introduces a booking feature called “FareLock”
Mumbai Airlines Jet Airways introduces a booking feature called “FareLock” that allow passengers to keep a selected fare for a limited period before confirming the purchase later.
- FareLock is applicable for Jet Airways’ network only its mobile site is jetairways.com
- Once the passenger selects the FareLockoption, they have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 350 for domestic ticket and Rs 700 for an international ticket to conform the fare.
- This feature will provide more helpful and flexible for passengers to plan their fare.
IRS officer Atulesh Jindal appointed new CBDT chief
Senior revenue service officer Atulesh Jindal was appointed chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). He will succeed A K Jain, who completes his term at the end of this month.
India’s Henri Tiphagne wins Amnesty award
The Amnesty International Human Rights Award 2016 has gone to Indian activist Henri Tiphagne.
- A lawyer and human rights defender, Tiphagne will be awarded the 8th Human Rights Award by Amnesty International Germany.
- The award comes with 10,000 euros.
- The award, to be presented on April 25 at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin, is in recognition of Tiphagne’s “exceptional commitment to human rights”.
- He is the founder of the organization People’s Watch, one of the most notable human rights organizations in India.
Naresh Bedi honoured with V Shantaram Award Life Time Achievement Award
The noted wild life film maker Naresh Bedi has been conferred with the V Shantaram Life Time Acheivement Award at 14th edition of 2016 Mumbai International Festival (MIFF), Mumbai.
- He is the first Asian to receive a Wildscreen Panda Award and the first Indian to receive a nomination for the British Academy Film Awards.
ICC T20 rankings: India rise to No. 1 after whitewashing Australia
India became the number one side in the ICC T20 rankings after whitewashing Australia in the three-match series. India, who are also the number one in Tests, overtook the West Indies to reach the top sport in the shortest format. India have 120 rating points, two more than the Caribbean unit. Sri Lanka also have 118 rating points like the West Indies but they are third in the charts.
Srikanth wins first Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold
Ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth won the 2016 Syed Modi International Grand prix Gold Championship Title of Badminton in men’s singles category. In the final match played at Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), he defeated Huang Yuxiang of China by 21-13, 21-14 and 21-14.
Note: It was his fifth title having won the 2013 Thailand Grand Prix Gold, 2014 China Super Series premier and Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold and India Super Series last year.
- Sayaka Sato (Japan) won the 2016 Syed Modi International Grand prix Gold Championship Title in women’s singles category.
- Malaysian pair of Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong won the 2016 Syed Modi International Grand prix Gold Championship Title in men’s doubles category.
- South Korean pair of Jung Kyung-eun and Shin Seung-chan won the 2016 Syed Modi International Grand prix Gold Championship Title in women’s doubles category.
- Indonesian pair Praveen Jordan and Deby Susanto won the 2016 Syed Modi International Grand prix Gold Championship Title in mixed doubles category.
