BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya passes away

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya, who has been known as the architect of BCCI, passed away in a private hospital in Kolkata. He was admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was admitted to the BM Birla Heart Research Centre. He was 75.

Sherif Ismail sworn-in as Prime Minister of Egypt

Sherif Ismail has sworn-in as the new Prime Minister of Egypt. He was administered an oath to the office by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. He will succeed Ibrahim Mehleb who had resigned from office following a corruption scandal involving his cabinet minister.

Alexis Tsipras returns to power with decisive vote win

Alexis Tsipras led left-wing Syriza party has emerged as the largest party in the general (snap) elections to the Greece’s Parliament. In this election, Syriza party won 144 seats in the 300 seat Parliament by securing 35 percent of total votes. While the Conservative New Democracy Party has emerged second largest party by winning 75 seats and Golden Dawn has emerged third largest party by winning 18 seats.

It is the second election victory for Syriza party as it had earlier in January 2015 had formed the coalition government with Alexis Tsipras as Prime Minister for the first time.

Parrikar adopts village in Amethi constituency

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has adopted Barauliya village in Amethi, the Parliamentary constituency of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh.

Ajay Jayaram wins silver medal in 2015 Korea Open Badminton tournament

India’s Ajay Jayaram has won a silver medal in 2015 Korea Open Badminton tournament in the Men’s singles category. In the final match played at Seoul, he lost to World no. one Cheng Long of China by 14-21, 12-21 score settling to silver medal. With this Ajay Jayaram became first Indian badminton player to win a medal in Korea Open Badminton tournament.

Sebastian Vettel wins 2015 Singapore Grand Prix of Formula One

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel won the Singapore Grand Prix and runaway championship leader Lewis Hamilton retired mid-race, injecting new life into the fight for the Formula One title. Vettel led from start to finish in a race that was temporarily interrupted by a fan wandering on the track. Vettel’s third win of the season came by 1.4 seconds over Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen finished third.

This was his third victory of the season 2015. Earlier he had won Malaysian Grand Prix and Hungarian Grand Prix.
