ICICI Bank appoints M K Sharma as new non-executive Chairman

M.K. Sharma was nominated as the new non-executive Chairman of ICICI Bank. He will succeed KV Kamath, who would step down from the Board to take on a bigger role as the first President of New Development Bank, established by the BRICS nations. M.K Sharma was earlier the Vice Chairman of Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL).

“Flood of fire” written by Amitav Ghosh

“Flood of Fire” is the final part of the famous “Ibis trilogy” by Amitav Ghosh, which comprises of historical fictional writings by him. The other two previous books under “Ibis trilogy” are – “Sea of Poppies” (2008) and “River of Smoke”. This trilogy is set in the first half of the 19th century. It deals with the trade of opium between India and China run by the East India Company and the trafficking of coolies to Mauritius.

16th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA)

16th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) informally known as the “Bollywood Oscars,” was held in Malaysia. The 2015 IIFA Awards honoured the best films of 2014. Haider was awarded the most awards (09).

Manchester United Football Club became World’s most valuable brand

The Manchester United became the World’s most valuable brand in the World football with 1.2 billion US dollars. Also, it became the first club to pass the 1 billion US dollar mark. It was revealed on 8 June 2015 in the study titled Football 50 2015 released by the Brand Finance, a leading brand valuation and strategy consultancy.

Mercedes racing driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain won the 2015 Formula 1 Canada Grand Prix title. In the final race, while, his team mate Nico Rosberg of Germany stood at the second position, Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel of Germany was at the third position.

Momota and Ratchanok won Indonesia Open Badminton titles

Japanese rising star shuttler Kento Momota and Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon won the men’s and women’s singles respectively of the Indonesia Open Badminton tournament.

  • In the men’s single final,World No.9 Momota upset world No.2 Jorgensen with a 16-21, 21-19, 21-7.
  • In the women’s singles final, former world champion and world No.6 Ratchanok beat Japan’s world No.35 Yui Hashimoto (21-12, 21-10).
