Supreme Court scraps decision to include Jats in OBC category
The Supreme Court has scrapped a year-old notification by the then-ruling Congress party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) granting the status of a backward class to the Jat community. An apex court bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman said: “We cannot agree with the view taken by the union government that Jats in the nine states in question are a backward community so as to be entitled to inclusion in the Central list of OBC as they don’t form socio-economic backward class”.
Crisil announces Ashu Suyash as MD & CEO
Ashu Suyash has been appointed as Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited (CRISIL). Ms. Suyash succeeds Roopa Kudva, who had been the Managing Director and CEO of CRISIL since 2007. Ms. Suyash has over 26 years of experience in the Indian financial services industry. She has also worked with the Citigroup.
Wipro appointed Abid Ali Neemuchwala as COO and Group president
Wipro, India’s third-largest software services firm, has appointed former Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) top executive Abid Ali Neemuchwala as the Group President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). He will take the charge from April 2015. Neemuchwala, in his new role, will head Wipro’s service lines of global infrastructure services, business application services, business process services and advanced technology solutions.
Indian researcher Minoti Apate named as woman of the year 2015 in New South Wales
A 56-year-old Indian pancreatic cancer researcher in Australia has been named New South Wales (NSW) Woman of the year 2015 for her contributions to medical research, tertiary education and the Indian community. At present she is Professor of Medicine at the South Western Sydney Clinical School of the University of New South Wales. Apate was the first researcher in the world to develop a method to isolate pancreatic stellate cells, a technique which provided a research tool for studying the path that pancreatic fibrosis (scarring of the pancreas) takes.
