Alibaba to buy 25% in Paytm; enters Indian mCommerce space
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba’s online financial service company, Ant Financial Services Group has announced that it will take a 25 percent stake in Paytm’s parent, One97 Communications. Paytm is the largest mobile wallet service in India with around 23 million users. It started its services in 2010 and is valued at around $2 billion recently.
Kolkata becomes India’s first Wi-Fi-enabled metro city
Kolkata has become India’s first Wi-Fi enabled metro city as the service was launched from Park Street in city. This 4th Generation free WiFi service was launched by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Free Wi-Fi service will be rolled out in a phased manner in all the wards under Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) as well as adjacent areas of Kolkata. The whole city is expected to come under Wi-Fi coverage by mid-April in 2015. Private telecom operator, Reliance Jio is providing the service in the city.
HAL bags Rs 1,090 crore Air Force contract
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has won a defence contract worth Rs 1,090 crore, to produce and supply 14 Do-228 aircraft to the Indian Air Force along with six reserve engines, one flight simulator and related equipment. The HAL Do-228 aircraft are manufactured by the Transport Aircraft Division at Kanpur.
Ajay Shukla takes charge as new Member (Traffic) in Railway Board
Ajay Shukla has taken additional charge as the Member (Traffic) in the Railway Board. He will replace D P Pande who retired from this post on 31 January 2015. Ajay Shukla is a senior officer from the 1979 batch of Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).
