TS Thakur to be next Chief Justice of India

Justice T S Thakur (63)  will be next Chief Justice of India. His name has been recommended by current  CJI Justice H L Dattu. Current CJI Justice Dattu will retire on December 2, 2015. Presently, Justice Thakur is the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court. He would be the 43rd CJI.

Justin Trudeau was sworn in as Canada’s second youngest prime minister ever

Justin Trudeau of Liberal Party has sworn in as 23rd Prime Minister of Canada ending 10 years of Conservative rule. Along with him, 30-member of his Cabinet also sworn-in at a public ceremony held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Canada. With this Justin Trudeau (43) became the second youngest PM of Canada after Joe Clark (40) who was youngest PM was of Conservative party and had entered in office in 1979 Justin Trudeau is eldest son of Canada’s former PM Pierre Trudeau who was in office for 16 years and led the country till 1984. 

Maldives declares 30-day emergency

Maldives President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has declared a state of national emergency, initially for a period of 30 days. This declaration comes under Article 253 of the constitution.

  • It comes two days before the planned protest by the country’s main opposition, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
  • MDP leader Mohamed Nasheed was jailed in March after a widely criticised conviction under anti-terror laws.

New Zealand beat Australia to retain Rugby World Cup

New Zealand has become the first team to defend a Rugby World Cup, beating Australia in the final at Twickenham Stadium in London. Playing his 112th and likely last Test of his record-breaking career, Dan Carter led from the front helping the All Blacks win its first World Cup outside New Zealand with a 34-17 scoreline. Carter scored 19 points in the highest scoring World Cup Final.
