Google to set up biggest campus outside the US in Hyderabad

Google Inc. will build its biggest campus outside the US in Hyderabad at an investment of Rs.1,000 crores. The 2 million square feet facility, the Internet giant’s first company-owned campus in Asia, will house 13,000 employees when it is ready in 2019.

Nikesh Arora appointed as President of Japan’s SoftBank Corp.

Indian-born Nikesh Arora has been named as the President of Japan’s multinational telecommunications and internet company SoftBank Corp. He succeeds Masayoshi Son. Earlier, he was the Vice Chairman of the company and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SB Group US, Inc. (former SoftBank Internet and Media, Inc.) since September 2014.

Justice Cyriac Joseph appointed interim Chairperson of NHRC

Justice Cyriac Joseph has been appointed as the interim Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) by the President Pranab Mukherjee. His appointment comes after the now Chairman of NHRC Justice K.G. Balakrishnan completed his tenure. He will remain in office till the new Chairman is appointed.

Neel Mukherjee’s, ‘The Lives of Others’, wins UK’s Encore Award 

Kolkata-born writer Neel Mukherjee’sThe Lives of Others” has won the UK’s Encore Award for the best second novel. The 10,000 pound prize, first awarded in 1990, fills a niche in the catalogue of literary prizes by celebrating the achievement of outstanding second novels. Mukherjee’s first novel “A Life Apart” was published in 2010. “The Lives of Others” was shortlisted for the 2014 Man Booker Prize and the Costa Novel Award.

President Pranab Mukherjee appoints new Governors in six states

President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday appointed six new governors for Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur and Jharkhand.

Jharkhand: Former Odisha Minister Droupadi Murmu was appointed as Governor of Jharkhand. She will replace Dr Syed Ahmed.

Manipur: Dr Syed Ahmed has been transfered to Manipur for remaining period of his term.

Arunachal Pradesh: J P Rajkhowa was appointed as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. He will replace Lt. General (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma.

Mizoram: Lt. General (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Mizoram for the remainder of his term.

Tripura: Tathagata Roy will be the Governor of Tripura.

Meghalaya: V. Shanmuganthan has been appointed as Meghalaya Governor.
