Indian Navy commissions INS Sardar Patel naval base in Porbandar
Indian Navy has commissioned INS Sardar Patel naval base in Porbandar, Gujarat in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and Admiral RK Dowan. It became the second naval base in the state after INS Dwarka near Okha. Gujarat is a frontline maritime state of India with the longest coastline of 880 nautical miles, besides sharing 532 kms of land border with Pakistan.
British PM David Cameron led Conservative Party wins 2015 general election
David Cameron’s Conservative Party won the UK General election 2015 by securing 331 seats with 36.9% vote share in a Parliament of 650 and Labour Party has won 232 seats with 30.4% vote share, emerging as largest opposition party. Scottish National Party (SNP) has emerged third largest party in this election by winning 56 seats with 9% of vote share. SNP has won 56 seats of the 59 seats from Scotland.
North Korea successfully test-fired Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile
North Korea on 8 May 2015 successfully test-fired a newly developed Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM). The nation described the missile as a world level strategic weapon. This missile programme has violated the UN resolution that prohibits Pyongyang from conducting ballistic missile tests.
World Health Organisation declares Liberia as Ebola-free country
Liberia, after no new cases in 42 days, has been declared free from Ebola virus by the World Health Organisation (WHO). More than 4,700 deaths have been recorded in Liberia due to Ebola which is higher than in any other affected country. Now, Liberia’s neighbors Guinea and Sierra Leone are only two countries fighting to stop Ebola outbreak since it began in December 2013.
