Parliament passes historic land accord bill to redraw border with Bangladesh 

India’s 41-year-old border issue with Bangladesh was settled on 7 May 2015 as Indian Parliament unanimously passed the Constitution (119th Amendment Bill act 2013) to allow the operationalisation of the 1974 India-Bangladesh Land Boundary agreement. With the passing of this bill 100th  Constitutional amendment came into effect.

Achal Kumar Jyoti appointed Election Commissioner

President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed Retired IAS officer Achal Kumar Jyoti as the Election Commissioner. He will serve as Election Commissioner for a period of three years, i.e. till he attains the age of 65 years old (the age at which Election Commissioners demit office under the Constitution).

NASA’s 10-Engine Electric Plane named GL-10 Completes Flight Test

NASA has developed and successfully flight tested a battery-powered plane with 10 engines, GL-10 which can take off and land like a helicopter and fly efficiently like an aircraft. GL-10 is remotely piloted plane similar as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).

Mazen Darwish honoured with 2015 UNESCO World Press Freedom Prize 

Syrian journalist and rights activist Mazen Darwish was presented with the 2015 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Mazen Darwish was honoured in recognition of the work he has carried out in Syria for more than 10 years as a a journalist and human rights defender.

Eminent historian Amalendu Guha passed away

Eminent historian and social scientist Amalendu Guha passed away. He was 91. Born on 30 January 1924 in Imphal, Guha was an eminent writer, poet, historian, social scientist and Communist thinker. He wrote in English, Assamese and Bengali languages.

Chelsea Won the 2014-15 English Premier League Title

English Premier League 2014-15 football title was won by Chelsea by defeating Crystal Palace 1-0 in the final match held at Stamford Bridge in London. This was Chelsea’s first league title since 2010, their fourth Premier League title and their fifth English league title overall. EPL is also known as Barclays Premier League (BPL) because it is sponsored by Barclays.
