Zomato acquires Delhi based data firm MaplePOS
Online restaurant guide Zomato announced the acquisition of MaplePOS, a cloud-based point of sale product for restaurants developed by a group of techies from Delhi. After the acquisition, Zomato has renamed MaplePOS product to ‘Zomato Base’ which will help the company and its restaurant partners to manage business into online orders and payments.
National Judicial Appointment Commission Act, 2014 comes into force
According to the notification issued by the Govt. on 13 April, judges will be chosen by the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC). NJAC will comprise of a team of six members that includes the Chief Justice of India, the two most senior judges of the Supreme Court, two eminent persons, and the Law Minister. The two eminent Indians will be chosen in turn by the Chief Justice, the Prime Minister and the leader of the largest opposition party in the Lok Sabha. For nearly two decades, judges have been appointed or transferred by a collegium – a group of five senior judges.
BHEL commissions 600 MW thermal unit in Chhattisgarh
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) on 13 April 2015 commissioned 600 MW unit of a thermal power project for the Dainik Bhaskar Power Limited (DBPL) at Dhabra in Janjgir Champa district of Chhattisgarh. The commissioned unit is the second unit of DBPL’s 2 × 600 MW power project. The first 600 MW Unit was commissioned in 2014.

Günter Grass, Nobel-winning German novelist, dies aged 87
The Nobel-winning legendary German writer Gunter Grass passed away at the age of 87 years. He was best known for his first novel “The Tin Drum” that was published in 1959. Grass is recognized for his efforts to revive German culture in the aftermath of World War II and also had given voice and support to democratic discourse in the post war Germany. In 1999, the Swedish Academy honored Grass with the Nobel Prize for literature.
