Air Pegasus Begins Commercial Operations
Air Pegasus became the newest domestic airline in India as its first flight took off from Bangalore to Hubli today. Its maiden flight was inaugurated by Union Aviation Minister Ashok Gajpathi Raju at Bengaluru. The airline is promoted by Decor Aviation, which calls itself the largest ground handling service provider in South India. Air Pegasus received its flying permit from aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) last year (2014).
NASA Names Asteroid After Malala Yousafzai
Asteroid 316201 was named as ‘316201 Malala’ after the youngest Nobel laureate and girls’ education campaigner Malala Yousafzai. Asteroid 316201 Malala is located in the Main Belt between Mars and Jupiter. It orbits around the Sun every 5.5 years and is more-than 2 mile wide.
New Zealand stun Australia to lift Sultan Azlan Shah Cup
New Zealand has won the 24th edition of Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament 2015 for second time. In the final match, New Zealand defeated World Champions Australia by 3-1 goals in the penalty shoot-out. In regulation 60 minutes time, both teams had tied at 2-2 goals. India won the bronze i.e. finished third by defeating South Korea by 4-1 goals in the penalty shoot-out after both the teams were tied at 2-2 at regulation time.
Sania Mirza Becomes World No.1 in Doubles Tennis
Sania Mirza created history when she became the first female tennis player from India to achieve the world number one rank in doubles. She achieved this feat after winning WTA Family Circle Cup along with her Swedish partner Martina Hingis. In the Final, top-seeded Indo-Swiss pair had defeated Casey Dellacqua and Darija Jurak by 6-0, 6-4 score. Earlier, only Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhuapthi had achieved the top rank when they dominated men’s doubles circuit in the last 1990s.
Apurvi Chandela wins Bronze in ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup
Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela won Bronze medal in the 10-metre air rifle event at the (International Shooting Sport Federation) ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Changwon, South Korea. With this win, Apurvi Chandela has qualified for the 2016 Olympics.
Lewis Hamilton wins Chinese Grand Prix of Formula One
Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes team and his German teammate Nico Rosberg ensured a one-two finish for Mercedes in the 2015 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix. With this win, reigning world champion Hamilton took his second victory of the season and his fourth at Chinese GP.
